Soil Health
Many producers are becoming more aware of the critical role that healthy soil plays in farm productivity, yet many are still exploring how to implement specific practices on their farms. This includes strategies like crop rotation, cover cropping, and reduced tillage, as well as understanding the key factors that influence soil health, such as soil structure, biology, and nutrient balance.
SPI’s on-farm workshops offer the ongoing education and support producers need to navigate the challenges of adopting new farming methods. These workshops expose producers to techniques that result in improved crop yields, enhanced water retention, and increased resilience to climate fluctuations.
Our workshops include both classroom and in-field components, including a presentation and demonstration showcasing the basic principles of soil health, and an on-farm tour led by our producer hosts. Discussions and demonstrations are tailored to the growing conditions in the local area so that attendees can utilize the information presented on their own operations.
