Join us for an experiential, two-day workshop with rancher and consultant Kent Donica of Understanding Ag, returning to Menke Farm and Ranch — a premier Houston-area hay producer.

This workshop will introduce the fundamentals of high-density grazing, based on methods developed by Understanding Ag in collaboration with producers nationwide, and will feature in-depth sessions on topics such as:

WORKSHOP TOPICS INCLUDE:

• Building soil health and farm resilience

• Calculating forage and paddock size

• Analysis of cost savings by using natural soil fertility methods

• Updates on state and federal programs that support regenerative ag

INSTRUCTORS:

Dr. Ken Mix is the Program director of The Small Producer Initiative at Texas State University and currently teaches entomology, soil health, and crop production, with active research on small producer needs, soil, and water resources. He is a former vegetable producer and currently runs SKM Homestead, a small livestock and mixed produce 50-acre farm in Fentress, Texas.

Understanding Ag: Founded by Gabe Brown, a leader in the regenerative agriculture movement, Understanding Ag helps clients reduce input costs, increase profitability, and ensure the sustainability of family farming. Their mission is to educate and mentor farmers, ranchers, landowners, and communities in restoring and regenerating agricultural ecosystems.

Menke Farm & Ranch is a family-owned cattle and hay operation, founded in 1847 in Waller, Texas. Led by 6th generation rancher Matthew Menke, he has transitioned the 3,000 acre ranch away from synthetic fertilizers and shifted from conventional to sustainable methods of grazing. Guided by the motto "regenerating ecosystems from the ground up," he is eager to share his journey, including the challenges and successes he's encountered.
